Janice is a teacher educator and researches English language and literature teaching (Engelsk språk- og litteraturdidaktik). She has published five books, most recently the edited volumes Teaching English to Young Learners – Critical Issues in Language Teaching with 3-12 Year Olds (2015) and Using Literature in English Language Education: Challenging Reading for 8-18 Year Olds (2018) as well as the monograph Compelling Stories for English Language Learners – Creativity, Interculturality and Critical Literacy (2022). Janice is editor-in-chief of Children's Literature in English Language Education (CLELEjournal), a diamond open-access journal. She leads the Nord Research Group for Children's Literature in ELT, and has been invited as plenary speaker in Turkey, Germany, Greece, UAE, UK, Italy, Japan, Norway, Portugal, Poland, Spain, Sweden and Finland. Janice is the leader of the ELLiL project: English Language and Literature – In-Depth Learning, and is currently preparing the international conference Reading for in-depth English learning – Texts in and beyond the classroom (RidEL 2024). Janice is in addition Professor II at OsloMet University, Norway.
