Bachelor's Thesis in Bioeconomy
The bachelor's thesis is a compulsory independent written work in which the student applies scientific method.
The content of the bachelor's thesis may be of varying nature, but students should normally choose a research question and apply literature that is relevant within the profile/specialization area that the student has chosen.
The thesis can be of a different nature, but will normally have one or more of the following elements:
- A theoretical study based on available literature
- An empirical survey in a single, or a group of companies, institutions or persons where comparisons and analyses are significant.
- Development of a method, model, business plan, computer program, etc.
- An investigation of a specific problem for one or more companies or institutions.
- A short experimental study using either lab- or industrial scale equipment.
For further elaboration of requirements for the research question, implementation and formalities, there is a separate guide, which is available in the learning platform. A separate supervisor is appointed for the bachelor's degree thesis.
After successfully completing the course, students will have achieved the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge:
- Be able to formulate a research question and discuss this on the basis of a scientifically justified approach and methodological tools for conducting the research
- Be able to find, evaluate and refer to information and subject matter relevant to the research issue
- Be able to present the information and subject matter so that it sheds light on a research issue
Skills:
- Be able to reflect critically on a self-chosen research issue within the area of specialization
- Be able to apply the knowledge material within key subject areas in the bachelor's programme and the specialization area
- Be able to carry out an investigation/study and apply methodological knowledge to solve methodological challenges
- Be able to present the knowledge material through independent written work
