Veterinary Nursing II

The students` expericences from previuos placements will give them a good foundation for understanding the principles for more advanced clinical procedures and veterinary nursing being taught in this course.
The course further develops the knowledge and skills learnt i the program. In addition, the students are introduced to other areas of Veterinary Nursing such as reproduction and obstetrics, emergency care, and pre-/post-op care of the surgical patient.

For students admitted to the Bachelor in Veterinary Nursing at Nord only.

All previous exams, and placements must be passed to enter this course.

Knowlegde:

  • of a normal canine and feline birth
  • of emergency procedures and first aid
  • of how and when to apply diagnostic imaging
  • of advanced pre- and postoperative veterinary nursing procedures
  • of advanced procedures and materials used in wounds
  • of advanced clinical examinations and sampling
  • of the basic principles of rehabilitation

Skills:

  • make and evaluate blood smears
  • know different types of bandaging and materials used in bandaging and wound care and when to use them
  • create nursing plans
  • be able to triage patients
  • perform basic life support

General competance:

  • distinguish between a normal and a not normal birth progression
  • maintain the health and safety of patients and people during diagnostic imaging
  • apply medical terms correctly, both orally and in writing, when communicating with collegues and other professionals

No tuition fees. Costs for semester registration and course literature apply. The university require that students have a laptop.

The students will have to buy scrubs and/or a coat for laboratory work.

Compulsory for and only for Bachelor in Veterinary Nursing.

Lectures. Laboratory work. Written reports from lab.work. Seminars. Practical training.

Seminars, lab work and practicals are compulsory.

Evaluation using mid-term and final surveys. Students are also encouraged to participate in the central quality surveys.
