Circular Bioeconomy
The bioeconomy is a key part of the "Green Shift" and the transition to a more circular economy. By reducing use, emphasizing reuse instead of consumption, the strain on climate and the environment will be reduced. In a circular economy, by-products ("waste") from one production are exploited as resources in another production.
Circular thinking is central to the transition from a fossil fuel economy to a bioeconomy that entails a change towards a more environmentally friendly and sustainable direction.
To put bio-based value creation into practice, we need innovation and development of new technologies, products and markets. Bio-based industries must also be economically profitable.
Central topics and theoretical main perspectives from the research front in the life sciences, economics and sustainability. Emphasis on the interdisciplinary nature of bioeconomy:
- Bioeconomy, value creation and business development
- Circular economic principles and business models
- Biotechnology and other bioprocesses enabling circular bioeconomy
- Opportunities, framework conditions and barriers for a circular bioeconomy.
- Life cycle analyses - LCA and techno-economic analyses
