The course provides a solid foundation to understand what is required to achieve lasting growth for the value of a business, a person and different investment funds. In today's competitive business environment, companies need to find innovative ways to generate fast and sustained growth. Through extensive use of realistic examples, the student gets a critical perspective on interpretation of financial information, capital budgeting, evaluating projects, allocating funds, all of which increase corporate value. A deeper understanding of the relationship between risk and return is given a lot of attention, and especially how to reduce risk without the expected return changes. 

It is possible to apply for admission to the course as a single course. There are reservations about the available capacity on the course. The applicant must meet the current admission requirements for the Master of Science in Business program.

The student:

  • Has a deep knowledge within strategy of securities selection that gives the highest possible return on risk
  • Has advanced knowledge in interpreting financial statements and capital budgeting
  • Have in-depth knowledge in valuing securities and abilities to apply knowledge in intersection of disciplines, industries, and sectors.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of research in topics related to the course.
  • Can apply knowledge in new areas within valuation and portfolio allocation
  • Have insight into international empirical research literature.
  • Can analyze professional issues with tools and techniques from the subject's specificity.

Skills

The student:

  • Can analyze existing models, theories and methods of valuation and portfolio allocation.
  • Can use relevant methods and theories for research within the subject's main themes on an independent basis.
  • Can analyze and relate critically to various information sources in the valuation of securities and use these to structure and formulate professional reasoning
  • Can analyze how different asset classes are put together in the best possible way for a given investor.
  • Can conduct, produce and evaluate independent analytical research work under guidance in accordance with research ethical norms.
  • Can use analytical and digital tools in practical work.

The study programme is evaluated annually by students by way of course evaluation studies (mid-term evaluation and final evaluation). These evaluations are included in the university's quality assurance system.
