Statistics and Research Methods in Sport and Exercise Science

IDR2017
The couse focuses on scientific methods and statistical analyzes that are suitable for carrying out research and development work in sports and physical activity. There is a focus on how to develop problems based on theory, how to use different methods and designs, how to analyze results from different methods statistically, as well as writing scientific reports.
The student must be enrolled in the study program Sports - Bachelor specialization, Meråker.

KNOWLEDGE

The student

  • knows scientific methods for research in sports and physical activity.
  • has knowledge and understanding of basic statistical methods for use in R&D work.

SKILLS

The student

  • can develop research questions and methods.
  • understands how to perform measurements, and is proficient in concepts such as measurement levels, raw scores, standard scores, and standard deviation.
  • can perform basic statistical calculations.
  • can summarize and present the results of analyses.
  • is familiar with various methods in qualitative and quantitative research in sports science and physical activity.

GENERAL COMPETENCE

The student

  • has the ability to analyze and assess the use of scientific methods and statistics in R&D work.
In addition to the semester fee and required reading materials, the student is expected to have access to a laptop.

Online and blockbased lectures
The study program is evaluated annually by the students through course evaluations and program evaluations. The evaluations are part of the university's quality assurance system.

Assignments: Six written assigments: Expression of grades: Approved/failed. All assignments must be approved in order to pass the course.

Oral exam: Duration 1 hour. Grade expressions: A-F. Counts 100/100 of the grade in the subject.

Generating responses using ChatGPT or similar artificial intelligence and submitting them wholly or partially as one's own work is considered cheating.

Overlap refers to a similarity between courses with the same content. Therefore, you will receive the following reduction in credits if you have taken the courses listed below:
