Digital Storytelling

JOU5001
Confident language use and a thorough understanding of genre norms, audience awareness, context and medium are fundamental areas of competence in the study. Communication skills also include the use of images, video, sound, animations, etc. Some of this is thematized under the subject "Digital storytelling", but in this subject it is all placed both within a broader theoretical framework, and forms the basis for a number of practical tasks and exercises. A central aspect of this is to reflect on one's own use of language, and try out different linguistic styles and rhetorical moves.
"Storytelling" is a broad concept here, referring to all forms of presenting a subject, an event, etc. where structure and linguistic, visual and audio tools are used in a manner that promotes effective communication. Mastering this is key to all forms of journalism and communications, and it also encompasses having a conscious relationship to genre conventions, context and being able to exploit various media and forms of expression from specific communicative intentions. In this course, the students will be introduced to the use of different tools for effectively mediated communication in a professional setting.
