Mathematics

MAT1001
Algebra and equation solving, derivation, maxima and minima for one-variable functions, geometric series, simple integration of one-variable functions, partial derivation, and local maxima and minima for two-variable functions (with and without secondary conditions).

It is possible to apply for admission to the subject as an individual subject. Reservations are made regarding free capacity on the subject. The applicant must meet the applicable admission requirements for the Bachelor in Business Administration, Bachelor in Economics, Digitalisation and Business Development, or Bachelor in Real Estate.

Knowledge

The student must have knowledge about:

  • functions of one and multiple variables, including linear functions, polynomial functions, exponentialfunctions and logarithms
  • the concepts derivation and integration
  • how geometric series can be used to find formulas for, among other things, savings annuities and term amounts (deposits) for annuity loans

Skills

The student must be able to:

  • solve posed and unposed problems using algebra and equation solving
  • solve posed and uposed optimization problems in one variable
  • use one-variable functions to solve simple business economic problems, including elasticity discussions
  • solve problems about savings annuities and annuity loans
  • solve posed and unposed optimizations problems in two variables, with and without secondary conditions

General competence

The student must have competence on:

  • the validity of a mathematical model, and how the validity depends on the assumptions made in the modeling process
  • how elementary mathematics can be used to model and solve economic problems
Paid semester fee and syllabus literature. It is also required that students have a laptop at their disposal.
Lectures, assignments, colloquim groups.
The study program is evaluated annually by the students through course evaluations and study program evaluation. These evaluations are included as part of the university's quality assurance system.
Written examination, 3 hours, letter grades.
