Professional Training, Part 1
There are two modules in the professional studies programme, part 1:
- pedagogy and
- music pedagogy/didactics
There is a close connection between the teaching and primary school practice (5th -7th years).
Special focus areas are:
- The mandate, purpose and legislative basis of the school and music teaching
- Curricula
- Planning, implementation and evaluation
- Didactic principles and terms
- The role of the subject teacher
- Learning theories
Knowledge
The student
- has knowledge of the legal basis of primary and lower secondary school, including the purpose, value basis and curricula
- has knowledge of planning, implementation, evaluating and observing music teaching in primary and lower secondary school
- has insight into basic general didactics and music didactics thinking
- has knowledge of key didactics terms, principles and learning theories
- has basic insight into the various ways of legitimising pedagogical music activities
- has knowledge of the child and youth-rearing environment, how the social environment impacts the learning environment, as well as insight into how to develop good relationships with and between pupils
- has basic knowledge of the use of Sami music and culture in music education
Skills
The student
- can apply subject terminology and justify their didactic choices in the theory of learning and teaching
- can plan music teaching in primary and lower secondary school that is adapted to the pupils’ ability
- can facilitate pupils’ creative processes, aesthetic experience and critical reflection in primary and lower secondary school
- can critically discuss professional dilemmas and challenges
General competence
The student
- can apply key subject matter in written and oral form in accordance with stipulated requirements
- can assess and reflect on their own music teaching and the music teaching of others in primary and lower secondary school
- can account for the development, challenges and opportunities faced by teachers in a complex contemporary setting while also encountering an uncertain future
Teaching on campus
Lectures and student-active forms of learning (for example, presentation, teaching, self-reflection, working in groups, role play and multimodal learning forms).
Participation and active cooperation between students is necessary in order to achieve the learning outcome formulations.
Mandatory participation (OD) in lessons, minimum 80%, and in agreed student-led activity. Mandatory participation must be approved in order to take the exam.
Coursework requirements (AK):
Six pieces (three in autumn, three in spring) Coursework requirements are provided as written/multimodal submissions and oral/practical presentations, respectively. A more detailed description is provided in the semester plan.
One of the coursework requirements for each semester are subject assignments associated with practice in primary and lower secondary school.
Coursework requirements must be approved before receiving a final grade in the subject.
Home examination (HJ):
- 2nd semester
- Grading scale, A-F. Individual assessment. Represents 100/100 of the grade.
- Duration: three days
In the diploma, the grades in part 1, part 2, part 3 and part 4 of the professional studies programme are merged into one grade. Each part is weighted to 20%.
