Substance Dependency Issues
PSH7002
The course emphasizes an approach to substance dependency issues with a particular emphasis on substance addiction. It involves treatment, habilitation, rehabilitation, and follow-up of people addicted to substances. The experiences of users and their close relatives in relation to problematic addiction will be a topic of substantial study. The course will also deal with addiction and concurrent mental illness.
Knowledge
The student:
- has advanced knowledge and understanding of all types of substance dependency. In particular, this involves substance-related illness and concurrent psychiatric disorders
- has in-depth knowledge of key approaches and treatment methods for this group of patients/users/clients
- has advanced knowledge of cooperation with users.
Skills
The student:
- is able to apply knowledge and skills to use and develop, independently, methods and ways of working that are appropriate in their own work
- is able to use knowledge and skills in the encounter with people and their relatives who experience problematic addiction-related issues
- is able to integrate knowledge and apply it in various praxis contexts.
General knowledge
The student:
- has analytical skills and can identify and visualise conditions that affect problematic substance dependency. In particular, this applies to substance addiction
- has keen ethical awareness concerning practical substance abuse work, knowledge development and research work
- is able to communicate the discipline's forms of expression.

Offered as independent course
Lectures, problem-based learning, various seminars, group work, skills training, communications training.
The programme of study is evaluated annually by the students through course surveys (mid-term evaluation and final evaluation). The evaluations are part of the university's quality assurance system.
Individual home exam, 2 weeks, counts 100/100 of the grade. Grading rule: Letter grades .
Work requirements in a group count for 0/100 of the grade. Grading rule: Approved/ Failed. Must be passed before a final grade in the course can be given.
Exam answers can be submitted in Scandinavian languages or in English.
