The course develops skills in cross-cultural communication using English in a business environment. 
Higher Education Entrance Qualification and English language proficiency

Knowledge

Through the course, students acquire:

  • Broad knowledge about current events, concepts, themes and structures within international business life.
  • Knowledge about English language norms in different cultural and social contexts.
  • Knowledge about the history, traditions, uniqueness, and social context of business.

Skills

The students are expected to be able to:

  • Use correct and relevant vocabulary and terminology.
  • Function effectively within an international environment.
  • Be able to apply theoretical knowledge in practical contexts.

General competence

The students are expected to be able to:

  • Communicate and convey central theories, issues, and solutions in business through practical and functional language, both written and oral.
  • Exchange precise and relevant perspectives with others, based on relevant theories in business, and through this contribute to developing the practice of business.
  • Have a solid understanding of intercultural issues in busines and see a relation between this and the practice of business.
  •  
Paid semester fee and syllabus literature. It is also required that students have a laptop at their disposal.

Compulsory course for 1st year students -  bachelor international marketing

Compulsory course for students on Experience English: Autumn 

Elective course for other students at Nord University

Seminar format classes on speaking, listening, writing, and reading comprehension. The textbook is required for weekly assignments and additional course materials will be made available on Canvas. Participation is not compulsory, although students must deliver weekly assignments and one in-class presentation to a passing standard in order to be eligible for the examination.
The study programme is evaluated annually by students by way of course evaluation studies. These evaluations are included in the universitys quality assurance system.

Combined assessment comprising of:

Take- home examination, individual, 1 week, grading scale A-F, F for fail. 60/100

Portfolio assessment, individual, grading scale A-F, F for fail. 40/10

Portfolio consists of three written submissions

  • Experience reflection
  • Analysis of article hand out
  • Essay on a self selected topic from the syllabus

Assessment task, comprises 0/100 of the grade, grading scale Approved - Not approved. Presentation.

All
