Game Lab is a work simulator aiming to give the students a controlled environment in which to learn how to work together in a development team. Game Lab should be treated by the students as a normal day at work in a video game production company.

The aim for the teams is to produce a game or an experience product based on technologies and topics taught in other subjects like Programming Fundamentals, CG art and CG animation. In addition, an individual professional portfolio will be developed.

Knowledge:

  • Has in-depth knowledge on planning and working in a project with a defined deadline
  • Has in-depth knowledge on working in and organizing work in a team project
  • Has in-depth knowledge on how the individual parts of a project organization functions as a bigger unit
  • Has good knowledge on how to research and update own knowledge on needed topics
  • Has good knowledge on how to design, implement and convey a professional portfolio

Skills:

  • Pocesses in-depth skills on the topics the student has chosen to improve his or her special competence through the project
  • Pocesses in-depth skills on project management and process development within teams and the use of relevant tools
  • Has good skills on presenting oneself and a product for a potential employer or investor
  • Has good skills on developing a digital portfolio

General competence:

  • Has good competence on working in organized teams, participating in practical projects and conveying relevant perspectives
  • Has in-depth competence on evaluating their own and other people’s efforts in teams
  • Has good competence on interacting with external clients
No tuition fees. Semester fees and cost of course literature apply.
Mandatory

Seminars, team meetings and project work

The work mainly consists of project work, developing a digital game and a professional portfolio. Additionally - workshops on pitching products and oneself to potential employers or investors.

Evaluation using mid-term and final surveys. Students are also encouraged to participate in the central quality surveys.

Portfolio

Group project with associated individual reports.

Total assessment of the group work and the individual reports. The groups are considered as units, with the group members' individual reports, work logs and assessments of themselves and each other as a basis for individual character.
