The course provides an in-depth understanding of scientific theory and research ethics within health sciences. The subject provides a broad understanding of knowledge and different forms of knowledge (ontology and epistemology). The course emphasizes understanding of connections between values, research ethics, scientific theory, scientific work and practice.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in health or social sciences

Knowledge

  • has in-depth knowledge of central scientific theoretical directions, and their importance for understanding health and participation linked to research and practice, as well as understanding different aspects of society and own subject area in accordance with the UN's sustainability goals of ensuring good health and promoting quality of life for all.
  • have advanced and broad understanding of various forms of knowledge.
  • have advanced knowledge of central research ethical principles that are relevant to health science, and the regulations and norms that regulate health research.

Skills

  • can analyze and reflect on healthcare practice through the use of various scientific theoretical concepts.
  • can apply scientific theoretical concepts independently in oral reflection and written work.
  • can critically assess and reflect on health science literature, application of research ethics principles and scientific theoretical positions.

General competence

  • Can apply scientific theoretical perspectives to analyze and further develop healthcare practice as well as understand different aspects of society.
  • Can independently describe connections between values and views of science, and how this affects research work.
  • Can critically assess, discuss and communicate knowledge bases in health sciences and own subject area.
the semester fee and course In addition to literature, students are expected to provide their own laptop computer with microphone and video equipment.

Compulsory course for all students in the Master’s in Health Sciences

Lectures, seminars, group work and self-study.
The course is evaluated annually by the students through course surveys. These evaluations are part of the University’s quality assurance system.

Individual home exam. Duration of home exam: 1 weeks. Rating expression: A-F. The exam answer must always be prepared by the candidate himself.
