Programme description

Special needs education is a very important and sought-after competence in kindergartens and schools.

The programme of study is a specialisation in language, reading and writing difficulties, or within the field of interaction and behavioural difficulties at master’s degree level. It also has a common section that includes theories related to the special educational field of work, special educational research methods, special educational advice, and language and social development in minority groups.

The programme of study may be included in the Master in Adapted Education with specialisation in special needs education.

Career opportunities

The programme of study provides the basis for appointment as special needs teacher in kindergartens, in schools, in municipal special educational teams and in other institutions that work on special educational tasks.

Admission requires a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 30 credits/ ECTS in special needs education as part of the bachelor’s degree, or as further education.

The following types of education satisfy admission requirements: General teachers, primary and lower secondary school teachers, kindergarten teachers, pre-school teachers, subject teachers, 1-year programme in educational theory and practice, child welfare educators, social workers and social educators or equivalent education with a scope of 3 years, and with a minimum of 30 credits/ ECTS in special needs education as part of the bachelor’s degree, or as further education.

An approved certificate of good conduct is required from the police. This is to be submitted as an attachment to the application for a place of study.
