BALU, Bachelor of Lule Saami Language
See study programmeThe bachelor¿s programme of Lule Saami language comprises teaching of both linguistic and literary subjects. Half the programme consists of Lule Saami language and literature. Students select a theme for the other half of their programme; either in historic or in circumpolar subjects, depending on whether he or she wants further master¿s level studies in these areas. Teaching is organised in intensive sessions that will take place in Bodø, at Drag and potentially other places.
The degree comprises 180 ECTS credits, 90 of which contain a specialisation in Lule Saami language, 20 of which are mandatory courses and 70 of which are electives.
The Lule Saami courses are taught in Lule Saami. The remaining courses are taught in Norwegian, or English if and when required or relevant. The aim of this programme is to provide candidates with thorough knowledge of Lule Saami linguistic and literary issues.
Upon successful completion of this programme, the candidate:
Knowledge:
- Has basic knowledge of the key aspects of the subject and specialised knowledge in selected areas of the Field
- Has acquired basic knowledge in the key areas of a secondary subject, or broader knowledge of selected areas of various subjects
Skills:
- Can communicate both orally and in writing in Lule Saami language
- Can navigate academic literature in language and/or linguistic issues
- Can communicate his or her knowledge about language and/or literature that he or she has acquired during the programme
General competence:
- Can work independently in professions requiring knowledge of Lule Saami language, culture and literature
- Has competence to apply for further education on master¿s level

Candidates must hold a minimum competence of Saami as secondary language from upper secondary school or have successfully passed the University`s Lule Saami introduction course levels 1 and 2.
No tuition fees. Costs for semester registration and course literature apply.
Students should expect costs to incur in relation to sessions at Drag or elsewhere.
