Main goal

In the Skills and performance development in sports study, the emphasis is on an in-depth understanding of one's own skill development and the development of practical competence as a practitioner and coach related to one's own sport.

The study integrates theory and practice divided into four 7.5 credit subjects: 1) physiology, 2) psychology, 3) motor skills/technique and 4) testing in sports. The study conveys important factors influencing sports participation, performance, learning, and development, from children's sports to top adult sports. Development of one's own training practice in the chosen sport and the practical pedagogical competence of the coach's role are central. The course will give the student the competence to lead and handle the daily work of their own and others' training and competition for teams and athletes at different skill levels.

Relevance

The study will develop the student's ability to fulfil societal tasks related to training, guiding and leading physical activity and sports for children, young people and adults, and athletes at various levels. The study also focuses on today's social challenges with inactivity and obesity on the one hand and early specialization and focus on results in children's and youth sports on the other, which is related to NORD Univ's social mission with sports education.

  • The course educates trainers, managers and guidance positions within sport, both in the public and private sectors.
  • The study focuses on sustainable performance development in sports and competitive sports.
  • The education satisfies the circuit and special associations' requirements for trainers at a higher level, and the student must be able to contribute to the continuous development of best practices within their sport.

Qualify for:

  • To plan, implement, and critically evaluate own and others' training and development process
  • Coordinator, trainer and sports manager at schools, such as top sports schools, sports clubs and teams
  • Coordinator and supervisor in the Sports Circle, Sports Association and Special Association
  • Activity manager and trainer/supervisor in the public sector
  • Coaches at all age and performance levels, including national teams

Organization

The course is organized online and assembly-based teaching on and off campus

Two gatherings of five days: 1) early September, 2) the end of November, 1 collection of 14 days in May/June, which includes practical testing and exams

There are up to 2 variable work requirements in each subject.

The exam; 

2 Oral and 2 written home exams.

The programme is evaluated via student questionnaire, as well as by the programme coordinator. The evaluations form a part of the university's quality assurance system.
