Further Education in Mental Health Work
See study programmeThrough further education in mental health work, the candidate will have strengthened their competence in user and patient-oriented and next-of-kin oriented work, professional development and research in mental health work. Moreover, the education is practically/clinically and academically oriented. The study’s disciplinary profile reflects the emphasis on a multi-disciplinary approach to the field of mental health work and in close proximity to the practice field.
The curriculum topics cover the guidance found in the National Framework plan for further education in mental health work, relating to specialization in psychosocial work
Further education is gathering-based with the following courses: Introduction to Scientific Thinking 10 credits, Perspectives in Mental Health Work 10 credits, Communication, Cooperation and Relationship 10 credits, and Specialization in Mental Health Work 20 Credits
Additionally, one elective course 10 credits. The elective course can be combined with or taken at the same time as required courses.
Knowledge
The candidate:
- has in-depth knowledge of various perspectives on mental health disorders
- is able to apply knowledge of approaches in mental health work including substance and dependency issues
- is able to analyse professional issues related to mental health work based on the discipline’s scientific traditions, distinctiveness and place of society
Skills
The candidate:
- is able to use relevant knowledge and experience in order to establish, develop and maintain relationships with people with mental illness and substance dependency issues.
- is able to use the resources of their own field of specialization in collaboration with users, relatives and other partners in mental health work
- is able to analyse relevant professional and research-related ethical issues and document and ensure quality in the performance of mental health work
General competence
The candidate:
- is able to apply knowledge and skills innovatively to develop service provision and conduct projects in mental health work.
- is able to convey a comprehensive written project and master the specialized terminology in mental health work, ethics and methodology.
- is able to contribute to inovative thinking and innovation processes in the field of mental health work
