Filip Lestan is research fellow at NORD Business School. In 2022, he commenced with a PhD degree in Business at the Division of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

In 2023 Filip was awarded innovation fellowship by the Research and Innovation Authority of the Slovak government office. During this time Filip co-developed blueprint for the establishment of Living Labs (LLs)—experimentation space and policy instrument—to increase competitiveness of the Slovak economy.

In 2024 Filip was awarded certificate of recognition by the Strategic Management Society for Outstanding Reviewer in the SMS 43rd Annual Conference in Toronto for the Knowledge and Innovation track under chairmanship of Professor Elizabeth Altman.

Research questions that Filip addresses are strongly informed by theory, but fundamentally aim to put forward practical implications for the following questions:

  1. How much do CEO, firm, industry and country matter in research and development?
  2. Does presence of an innovation committee in the corporate board has substantive value for organizations—or only symbolic?
  3. To what extent innovation capability affects (or not) business performance? And how much this relationship differs when previous research (a) investigated capability through resource-based view—or dynamic capability theories criteria—or (b) when performance measures reflected (or not) non-perceived financial performance?

Filip received a Master's degree in International Business in the Oil and Gas Sector, summa cum laude, from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO). Then, the second one is in Global Management, magna cum laude, from the NORD University Business School.

Before his academic career, Filip was a professional ice-hockey athlete, a stable member of the Slovak Ice Hockey National Team, and worked as a Finance Analyst at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) for Public Governance Directorate.
