Game Lab is a work simulator aiming to give the students a controlled environment in which to learn how to work together in a development team. Game Lab should be treated by the students as a normal day at work in a video game production company.

Game lab 5 is focusing on games for learning.

Game Lab is a work simulator aiming to give the students a controlled environment in which to learn how to work together in a development team. Game Lab should be treated by the students as a normal day at work in a video game production company.

The aim for the teams is to produce a game or an experience product based on technologies and topics taught in other subjects like SPO1110 Programming Fundamentals, CG art and CG animation

Knowledge

  • Has good knowledge within the subject field of games for learning
  • Has good knowledge on working in a project with a defined deadline
  • Has good knowledge on how it is to be working in and organizing work in a team project
  • Has broad knowledge on how the individual parts of a project organization functions as a bigger unit
  • Has broad knowledge on quality assurance in process and project management

Skills

  • Is able to develop a digital game with clear elements of games for learning
  • Has good skills within the topics the student has chosen to improve his or her special competence through the project
  • Can use and master project management and process development in teams, with the help of associated tools
  • Is good at documenting individual and project progress for quality purposes

General competence

  • Knows well about typical mechanisms on learning and learning theory
  • I well acquainted with working in organized teams
  • Has good experience in participating in practical projects
  • Has good experience evaluating their own and other people’s efforts in teams
  • Has good experience interacting with external clients
No tuition fees. Semester fees and cost of course literature apply.
Mandatory

Seminars, team meetings and project work

The work mainly consists of project work. Additionally - workshops on project management and quality assurance, product research and pitching

Evaluation using mid-term and final surveys. Students are also encouraged to participate in the central quality surveys.

Portfolio

Group project with associated individual reports.

Total assessment of the group work and the individual reports. The groups are considered as units, with the group members' individual reports, work logs and assessments of themselves and each other as a basis for individual grade.
