Suitability assessment

The suitability assessment will determine whether the student has the necessary prerequisites to work in the profession.

Notification of suitability

  • Use the form (Norwegian, Word-document) to fill in the information and describe your concerns.

Send the form by using the secure link eDialog. If you have questions, you can contact the institution’s person responsible for suitability assessment.

Contact information

A student who poses a possible danger to patients, users, kindergarten children, pupils or others during their studies or in future professional practice may not be suitable for the profession.

Anyone can submit a notification of doubt – the teaching staff, such as practice supervisors and subject teachers, as well as students and administrative personnel. The person submitting the notification is not party to the case, and is thus not entitled to receive feedback. The staff member responsible for suitability assessments at the institution will not consider notifications of doubt that are obviously unjustified.

    • The employees at the faculty and the supervisors where the students have their internship, are responsible for appraising the students suitability throughout their education. The appraisal of practice is important in an overall assessment, due to the University's responsibility for highly qualified graduates. cf. University and College Act § 4-10, first paragraph.
    • The institution's person in charge of suitability assessment is responsible for carrying out a separate suitability assessment. As a rule, separate assessment of suitability starts with a report of doubt regarding the student's suitability, cf. University and College Act § 4-10, first paragraph, regulations for suitability assessment in higher education § 10
    • If there still is a concern for the students’ suitability when the case is adequately investigated and enlightened, it will be forwarded to the Suitability Board and sent over for a tribunal evaluation, cf. the Universities and Colleges Act § 4-10, third paragraph, regulations for suitability assessment in higher education § 11.
    • Write down your concerns and describe what led up to your doubts for the students ability to obtain the needed qualifications to execute the tasks sufficiently.
    • Give feedback or guidance to the student concerned, so that she/he is aware of the uncertainty and has the opportunity to learn from your feedback, before you send in a notice of concern.
    • If you need to discuss your doubts with someone, contact relevant staff at the student's faculty or the institution’s person responsible for suitability assessment at Nord University. Your concern can be discussed anonymously, but you cannot stay anonymous if you decide to send a notification.
