Before you travel abroad

Check what you need to do before going on an exchange
  • As a Nord University student there are a number of grants that you can apply for. These include Erasmus+, north2north and Nordplus.

Lånekassen is a government agency that allocates student scholarships and loans to Norwegian students. In some cases, international students may qualify for this. You can find more information about this and how to apply at Lånekassen.

    • Update your new address and contact information in StudentWeb as soon as you have been assigned student housing at your host institution.
    • All exchange students are exempt from paying the semester fee.
    • You have to confirm your study plan in StudentWeb (semester registration).
  • Some institutions have specific language requirements. Check with your host institution or with the International Office.

    • Familiarize yourself with the visa requirements of the country you are visiting. Many countries outside of Europe require a student visa, depending on your nationality, if your stay exceeds 90 days.
    • International students are required to have a valid permit in Norway before starting the visa application process of the host country. You must have received an admission letter from your host institution before you start the visa application process.
    • The relevant embassies may help with detailed information about the application process.
