The programme is designed in accordance with the recommendations of the National Council for Economic Administrative Education, whereby the programme must cover at least business finance, social economics, administration and methods. The first year provides students with understanding of markets and organisations as well as developing their ability to critically reflect upon fundamental principles and values. This year also contains courses in mathematics, statistics, financial analysis and law. The second year of study provides a specialization within social economy, business finance, organization and leadership, strategy and marketing, in addition to an elective course (10 ECTS). The third year of study contains three compulsory courses: economics, business administration and methods. Students have the opportunity to specialize within an area of their choosing. The theme for the bachelor's thesis is connected to the specialization. The fourth year of study focuses on central subjects such as business and economic analysis, strategy, ethics and leadership, as well as methods. Teaching occurs in lectures and group work with both lesser and larger home assignments. In the spring semester, students should a major and minor. The major is comprised of one course in the spring semester and two courses in the autumn semester of the fifth year of study. The minor is comprised of one course in each of the same semesters. The fifth year of study is comprised of courses within the major and minor areas of study. In the last semester, students work on their master's thesis. Major and minor offers will vary from year to year in accordance with student interest and faculty resources. The language of instruction is Norwegian in the first three years of study, while the final two are primarily taught in English.

Knowledge and understanding Upon completion of the programme, the candidate should:

  • Have advanced knowledge in the field of business administration and specialized knowledge in a chosen major
  • Have a thorough knowledge of theories and methods within business administration
  • Be able to apply knowledge in new areas within business administration

Skills Upon completion, the candidate should:

  • Be able to analyze existing theories, methods and interpretations within the field of business administration and work independently on practical and theoretical problem-solving
  • Be able to interpret, critically assess and use appropriate methods in an independent manner
  • Be able to master the relevant research tools and techniques

General knowledge Upon completion, the candidate should:

  • Be able to apply his/her knowledge and skills in new areas to carry out advanced tasks and projects
  • Be able to communicate about academic issues, analysis and conclusions within the field of business administration, both for specialists and the general public.

The Business School’s Master of Business Administration degree is widely known and gives you a broad and applicable competence that gives you many job opportunities in both the private and public sectors. Our former students work in everything from the banking and finance industry, in accounting and auditing, industry and energy, and in ministries or other public institutions. Several of them are in senior positions or work as consultants, supervisors, and advisors. Several of our former students have also, with great success, developed their own companies. Over the years, the Business School has educated several thousand economists (siviløkonomer), and many of them are currently in leading positions in both Norwegian and international companies.
Successful completion of this Master degree programme qualifies graduates to apply for admission to the PhD doctoral programme at University of Nordland or at other universities in Norway or abroad.
Students may go on exchange studies to one of our partner institutions abroad, in Europe, Australia or North America, during the bachelors part and/or master¿s part of the programme. No tuition fees. Costs for semester registration and course literature apply.
The candidates knowledge will be assessed in all courses. The assessment method will vary to what is suitable for each course. Methods include traditional written and oral examinations as well as take-home exams, papers or project assignments, case studies and other oral and written presentations.
Final graduation examination for the study programme is the Master thesis.
The study programme is evaluated annually by questionnaires to students as well as by the Programme Director. The evaluations constitute a part of the Universitys quality assurance system.
