Knowledge

Students shall:

  • have foundational knowledge of the sound structures, word patterns, and grammatical structure of the English language as well as insight into the cultural conventions for its use
  • have knowledge of English as a world language and its developing role as a contact language for people from different countries and cultures, as well as its importance in internationalization in education and the workplace
  • have knowledge of and can distinguish between literary genres, as well as conventions of academic writing, including responsible use of secondary sources and research ethics
  • have knowledge and understanding of English in a holistic, cultural context
  • have insight into the possibilities for the subject's role in developing interpersonal communication, values, respect, and tolerance
  • have knowledge of strategies for textual, linguistic, cultural, and analytical approaches to literature and other texts
  • have knowledge of modern literary theory
  • have knowledge leading to personal and academic maturation
  • have increased knowledge and understanding of language as a phenomenon

Skills

Students

  • have the ability and expertise to further their professional development in English within our present academic structure
  • can analyze and write research-based articles on literary texts, and also apply precise and customized concepts in working with texts

The programme is evaluated via student questionnaire, as well as by the programme director. The evaluations form a part of the University's quality assurance system.
