Research and research-based teaching on the topics of sustainable development and global citizenship aims to create new knowledge and innovative learning processes connected to said topics

The centre is in an establishing phase and will be further developed. Structure and organization form will be set from 2023. The centre is organized under the Faculty of Education and Arts.
In a time affected by global challenges the necessity of educating for sustainable development and global citizenship is highlighted. A number of countries have adopted the terms into their primary and secondary education curriculums.
Norwegian students have had democracy, citizenship, and sustainability as part of their schedules through the new revised curriculums for primary and secondary education since the fall of 2020. Demos has been established to strengthen these topics in our education.
The Faculty of Education and Arts at Nord University has established Demos, Centre for Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship as a measure to strengthen the subject matter, strengthen teacher training, research and development at the faculty, and promote a cross-faculty and cross-sectoral cooperation with regional, national, and international partners. The goal is increased competence and power of action in society and working life.
