Programme description

Today, working life is characterised by quick transitions and high competence demands in both the private and the public sector. Good leadership and human resource policies are decisive for an organisation to succeed, and they are key in keeping and developing a competent and increasingly well-educated labour force. The Bachelor of Human Resource Management (HRM) at Nord University offers an education opportunity in modern human resource management that allows both new students as well as mature students with work experience from business and/or the public sector to acquire better qualifications for holding positions in human resources and management.

Career opportunities

Knowledge of HR management are in demand in the labor market and provide many and varied job opportunities in private and public entities, such as a counselor or leader.

Applicants must fulfil the requirements for Norwegian General Study competence as well as language proficiency requirements in Norwegian and English language.

The program facilitates exchanges in the 5th semester (fall semester) in 3rd year of study. Nord University has several current partner institutions that can offer compatible topics and which could be incorporated in the 5th semester curriculum. The following partners are recommended for exchange:

USA: Augsburg College (Minneapolis, Minnesota)

Europe: Wageningen University (Nederland)

Australia: Deakin University

In order to go on exchange students need to have completed a minimum of 60 ECTS of the bachelor degree.

The programme qualifies graduates to apply for admission to the Master Social science at the Nord University, or other master programmes within the field of HRM

A candidate who has completed his or her qualification should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence.

Knowledge

  • has basic understanding of Human Resource Management in modern public and private businesses
  • has broad knowledge of important topics, theories, issues, processes, tools and methods within the field of Human Resource Management. Main areas of knowledge are organization and leadership, organisational psychology, labour legislation, communication, knowledge management, strategy and marketing, business economics and competitiveness and work environment / HSE
  • is familiar with research and development work in the field of Human Resource Management, also specifically related to the main areas of knowledge
  • has knowledge of the history, traditions, distinctive character, and place in society of the academic field of Human Resource Management. Broad knowledge of the Norwegian work life model is a main focus area; its rise, characteristics and development

Skills

  • can apply academic knowledge and relevant results of research and development work to practical and theoretical problems related to Human Resource Management, and make well-founded choices
  • can make use of this knowledge in practical business-related work

General competence

  • meets the knowledge requirements within the field of Human Resource Management in public and private sector
  • meets entrance qualifications for Higher Education within the field
  • has insight into relevant academic and professional ethical issues related to Human Resource Management so that he/she meets the needed qualifications to lead people at work
  • is familiar with how prerequisites for work, in public and private sector, change and are influenced nationally and internationally
