Programme description

This bachelor' s programme in sport sciences provides candidates with a solid theoretical and practical foundation for working with sports in different roles.

As a candidate, you will develop your ability to lead practical activities through various work methods and learning strategies during this programme. You will learn to motivate and guide athletes to perform better through systematic performance development work. You will also be able to develop yourself within a sport of your choice through acquiring theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The programme also provides candidates with a wide range of opportunities for further education and career promotion.

Career opportunities

Our Bachelor of Sport Sciences degree qualifies candidates for work as a coach, in the health and fitness industries as well as for holding posts and developing careers in public or private organisations involved with physical activity and public health. Combined with teaching qualifications this programme also qualifies candidates for teaching sports and PE at primary and secondary education institutions.

Courses taught in the 5th semester of the programme will be taught in English if English-language exchange students attend these courses.

Successful completion of this programme qualifies candidates to apply for admission to master¿s degree in sports, coaching and management programmes. Students may also apply for admission to the PPU education programme at Nord University.

Upon successful completion of this programme, the student:

Knowledge

  • Has specialised knowledge in the social and natural science of sports and physical activity
  • Has interdisciplinary knowledge of sports as a culture and research arena, as well as of its relevance in various contexts
  • Has knowledge of different scientific theories, principles and methods (testing) in sports sciences that can be applied to solving issues related to skills development, physical activity and health
  • Has thorough knowledge of framework conditions influencing learning for individuals and groups, including management, methods, environment, dynamics, relational factors, individual factors, goal-defining processes, as well as evaluation/analysis of these conditions
  • Has knowledge of general as well as specific factors influencing performance development

Skills

  • Can locate, assess, apply and refer to relevant research and development work and other relevant professional information as well as present this in a way that highlights an issue.
  • Is able to plan, conduct and assess training, alone and in cooperation with others, based on policy documents, research and experience-based knowledge
  • Can identify and systematically work on skills required for performance development in sports
  • Can motivate and guide athletes and adjust training to the athletes¿ skills and abilities, interests, social and cultural background
  • Can assess athletes¿ development in relation to goals, provide feedback that enhances development and contribute to athletes¿ assessing their own development

General competence

  • Has knowledge of relevant profession and ethical issues and can contribute to a professional community and to the developing of sports
  • Can inspire and facilitate entrepreneurship and innovation in sports
  • Can contribute to a good cooperation between the sports team and the home, as well as identify needs of young athletes and initiate necessary measures in cooperation with guardians
  • Can communicate key professional information both orally and in writing, participate in professional debates in sports and share his or her knowledge and experiences with others.
  • Has skills and capacities that promote professional reflection

No tuition fees for students within EU/EEA/EFTA..

Costs for semester registration and course literature apply.

Students are required to have a bicycle. The nature of this programme requires using various practical learning arenas, and students are expected to cover their own costs related to transportation to/from these arenas on their study location, broadly defined as Levanger municipality.

The Faculty' s scheme for refund of transportation costs applies to teaching provided outside of Levanger municipality.
