The first year consists of the topics physiology, anatomy, genetics, chemistry and animal health, animal environment and welfare.

Second and third years focus more directely towards animal nutrition and feeding, designing farm buildings, economics and management in animal production for the different farm animals.

The study finish with a bachelor thesis where the student get the opportunity to study a subject of interest.

After finishing the 3 year programme, the candidate should have the following knowledge, skill and competence:

- Good knowledge on animal science and farm animal production, health, welfare and production, nutrition and feeding of farm animals as well as pets and sport animals
- Skills that makes the candidate able to use theoretical analysis on practical situations for optimizing different productions, planning building solutions for different farm animals,
- Competence for jobs connected with advisor activity, planning of animal production, private and public management

The candidates are qualified for working as advisor, instructor, teacher, designing farm buildings, public management related to animal husbandry and animal science. The programme also suites persons planning to be in agricultural business running their own farm with animal production.
After finishing the bachelor programme with above average grades, the candidates are qualified for the master programmes in animal science at the Life Science University. The bachelor programme also qualifies for master programmes in Animal Science at other Universities.
No tuition fees. Costs for semester registration, field trips and course literature apply.

The programme is using different assessment methods:

- Written examination
- Oral examination
- Reports
- Different thesis
- One Bachelor thesis

The programme is evaluated via student questionnaire, as well as by the programme coordinator. The evaluations form a part of the university's quality assurance system.
