The Bachelor's degree in Aquaculture Management provides an interdisciplinary, industry-oriented education with work placement in the aquaculture industry as part of the programme.
This full-time programme includes lectures and various forms of exercises mainly in the laboratories. In the last semester the students will do field practise in Norway or abroad.

Some handicaps may limit the laboratory exercises and field practical work.

On successful completion of the programme:

Knowledge
The candidate should:

  • have a good overview of Norwegian seafood production
  • have sufficient knowledge to establish a fish-farming operation
  • have obtained knowledge regarding procedures and practical tasks in a fish-farming company

Skills
The candidate should:

  • be familiar with the terminology used by the major private and public actors in the aquaculture industry
  • be able to plan the establishment and operations of fish farms on the basis of technical, biological and economic criteria

General competence
The candidate should:

  • be able to carry out independent scientific explanations founded in key fisheries-related issues
  • be able to start further study of some specialized topics in aquaculture

Students who have completed this bachelor programme are qualified to work as production managers in the aquaculture industry or related industries. They can also take up positions in public fisheries administration.
This bachelor study qualifies amongst others for admission to the following master programme at Nord University :
- Master in Biology and Aquaculture
(Course in Statistics is also required)

No tuition fees. Costs for semester registration and course literature apply.

Additional costs, limited upward to NOK 2,000, will incur in relation to field trips/excursions.

The programme includes a mandatory industry placement period in the 4th semester, and students should expect costs to incur during this period (accommodation, food, traveling etc.).

Written exams. Letter grades A-F for all subjects except for AK224F Bachelor's Thesis, AK214F Work Placement in Norway in Aquaculture Management and AK215F Work Placement Abroad in Aquaculture Management which is "passed" or "not passed.
The final graduation examination for the study programme consists of the bachelor assignment and work placement.

Students take an active part in the evaluation of the courses in the programme through mid-term and final evaluation. Dialogue meetings are also conducted between students and the programme director every semester.
