Center for Crisis Management and Collaboration - Nordlab
Center for research, education and competence development within the fields of preparedness and collaboration in the High North.

Center for Crisis management and collaboration – Nordlab focuses on practice-based research and education in preparedness, societal security and collaboration, and contributes to Nord University’s thematic focus area in societal security.
The center focuses on four strategic areas:
The exercise and simulation laboratory, Nordlab, facilitates education, research, and exercises at the center. In the autumn of 2024, Nordlab was expanded to 500 square meters and consists of modern facilities with advanced technology that enables the implementation of various types of exercises, research activities, teaching, as well as networking and dialogue with emergency response actors and industry. The new investments in Nordlab include, among other things, a climate and environment room specially designed for training and research activities related to environmental pollution such as oil spill response, radiation protection, and similar challenges.
Through Nordlab, we offer pedagogical support for developing and facilitating various types of exercises, as well as evaluation. We already assist several faculties with the development, implementation, and evaluation of exercises at Nordlab, and we are happy to get in touch with others who are interested in exploring opportunities for collaboration. We want encourage students and private and public sector stakeholders to utilize our facilities at Nordlab for teaching, exercises, and research.

The center focuses on practice-based research through several projects in collaboration with the community and industry within emergency preparedness and collaboration. The center uses exercises at Nordlab, as well as external exercises, to increase trust in research results, with a special focus on strengthening Arctic research in preparedness, organizations, competence, and capacity.
Research group "Marketing, Organisation and Leadership Division"
The center contributes to a range of study programs at bachelor, master, and Ph.D. levels. This allows us to reach various student groups across multiple faculties. Students often become part of the center’s network after graduation and later contribute as mentors, lecturers, and collaborators.
The center is responsible for several courses in the Business School’s master’s program in emergency preparedness and crisis management, where various types of exercises are conducted at Nordlab.
Students writing their bachelor’s or master’s thesis on topics related to exercises, preparedness, and cooperation are welcome to use the center as a venue for data collection and inspiration, regardless of their study program and faculty.
The center offers several flexible lifelong learning programs (EVU) and develops new education programs tailored to the needs of society and industry. The programs are developed in collaboration with professional actors and facilitate networking with emergency preparedness organizations, as well as the involvement of lifelong learning students from the industry in research.
We also develop courses and micro-courses (both non-credit and credit-bearing) needed and upon request.
Courses at the Center for Crisis Management and Collaboration:
- Emergency preparedness in fisheries and aquaculture (Starting in the fall 2025)
The center is in continuous collaboration and dialogue with emergency preparedness organizations, industry, and other community actors through participation in projects, development of joint exercises, and involvement of mentors and former students in education and exercises at Nordlab. The center focuses on cooperation that strengthens preparedness based on our location in the Arctic regions.
The center works strategically with suppliers of equipment and new technology within training and exercises in the field of emergency preparedness. We have a unique collaboration with local emergency services and a broad network consisting of emergency preparedness organizations and authorities, both regionally, nationally, and internationally
