Programme description

The Bachelor’s Degree in Strength and Conditioning provides candidates with a thorough introduction in how to plan, carry out and evaluate training and physical activity. The programme of study consists of both a theoretical introduction to different courses and a lot of practical training. Candidates will also have the opportunity to work with athletes and customers at fitness centres in order to prepare for professional life. A bachelor’s degree in strength and conditioning provides candidates with many exciting and varied career opportunities. This is an education for those who enjoy training and physical activity!

Bachelor in Strength & Conditioning is a full-time study with weekly teaching at the Bodø campus. Up to 50% of the teaching is practical. In addition to the campus, facilities at Mørkvedlia Idrettspark are used, with a multi-purpose sports hall, gymnastics hall, climbing hall, football pitch and running track. The study programme also has access to a well-equipped gym.

Admission to the programme of study requires Higher Education Entrance Qualifications. 

A certificate or good conduct from the police (Childcare Certificate of Conduct) is required.

The programme of study includes opportunities for a period of study abroad in the third semester. All courses are offered in English during the fourth semester.

Completed study may provide admission to the following educations:

-1-year programme in educational theory and practice for general education teachers from Years 8 to 13. From 2019, the admission requirements are a bachelor’s degree in sports and physical education subjects with at least 180 credits in the subject. Candidates must have achieved an average grade of C or better in their bachelor’s degree. From 2025, candidates require a master’s degree to gain admission to 1-year programmes in educational theory and practice, specialisation in physical education.

- Various master-level programmes of study, such as the master’s programme in ‘Science in Physical Education’, which may provide admission to the PhD in Practical Knowledge at Nord University.

Knowledge:

Students will:

  • have broad knowledge about key courses/topics/theories regarding training and physical activity, and how one influences people through different types of training
  • have knowledge about research and development work on key courses/topics within the field of training
  • be able to orientate themselves in relation to academic literature, identify important issues concerning theoretical and practical training, and discuss and develop their professional training practice through dialogue
  • have knowledge about training and physical activity in a historical context, and know what significance this has in modern society.

Skills:

Students will be able to:

  • apply academic knowledge and relevant results from research and development work on different aspects of training, and be able to justify the choices made regarding training and physical activity
  • reflect on their own professional practice within the field of training and adjust this under supervision
  • find, assess and refer to information and subject matter about training and training management, and present this in a way which highlights a specific issue.
  • orientate themselves in relation to academic literature, identify important issues concerning theoretical and practical training and physical activity, and present this in a way which highlights a specific issue
  • master different training technologies, different techniques and methods in training and physical activity, as well as different forms of expression

General competence:

Students will:

  • have insight into relevant academic and professional issues of an ethical nature within the field of training and training management
  • be able to plan, carry out and evaluate both short and long-term training and physical activity. This is done both individually and in groups, and in accordance with ethical guidelines
  • be able to convey key subject matter about training and physical activity in writing, orally and through other forms of expression
  • be able to exchange points of view about and experiences from training and physical activity with others who have the same professional background, and thereby contribute to the development of good training practice
  • have knowledge of innovation and innovative processes associated with training and physical activity
